French Men at Work?

This song is admittedly weird, but the heady xylophone gives it staying power I think.

Holy Jesus this video makes me want to be a rockstar. They disabled embed on the video, so I'm just going to give you the link. Because I don't give a shit about this blogs aesthetic compared to how much I want you to see this video. Volume helps.

Bird on a Wire

Rogue Wave just released a new album and it made me roll back to one of my old favorites. This one's a little boring if it's quiet but if you listen to it right I think the chorus has a ton of energy.

Matt and Kim

Been heinously busy recently. Trying to let music back into my life. What better way to do so than with Matt and Kim?

AWESOME video from them, song just ok:

Their most famous song and still one of the best dance floor starters ever:

Odessa by Caribou

This song has been floating around the internets quite a bit for the past couple months. I really liked the video at first but not so much the song. It played at the perfect moment the other day and now I love it. Very sinister feel to it.

Girl Talk Remix of Peter Bjorn and John

I've had this puppy for a while but I started listening to it a couple times a day in the past two weeks for some reason. I guess the reason is that it's so good.

Armada Latina

Ok, well I'm double posting because I've been busy recently, and because I want to show you this song before it gets ruined by the radio overplaying it. Enjoy this for a week before it gets horrible!

The Start of Something Good

I've loved this song for years

When You Walk In The Room

This one definitely needs volume. The energy from the piano drop in the intro can carry you through the rest of the song. Definitely something you want in your music library.

Jai Paul!

I like it, I love it, more, MORE! Seriously though, this is some heavy electro awesomeness. Not for everyone, but if it's for you you're gonna love it.

Back to Back

Less posts this week as I am in Newport Beach, CA for spring break. That being said, I can NOT get enough of Wolf Gang. I just fell in to my own world so hard listening to the song Back to Back that I had to pick up my computer to post it. I love the little guitar riff paired with the falsetto hammered home by the deep piano. A lot of bands can produce one good single, but every song I've heard by Wolf Gang has been memorable.

More Alex Metric

This song is what turned me onto Alex Metric. A lot of the cool cutting that he does as a DJ is on the deeper parts of the track so to get the full effect use nice headphones or speakers with bass. I've got a ton of songs I want to post but having a hard time finding good media on the internets to do it with.

Also, I love classic rock and I've been stuck on I Know What I Know by Paul Simon lately.

The Sound of Arrows

This song is ancient for music blog fiends, but the point of this blog is not meant to pander to them. It definitely isn't as widespread as it deserves to be.

Functioning People

This song is in the same vein as the Fool's Gold song I posted a little while ago. It has the appeal of stoner Jam bands like Phish or Sublime mixed with that indie twang that everybody enjoys these days. As spring approaches you'll need more songs for those sunny outdoor hangouts and this is definitely one of those songs.

No video, but if you need more convincing evidence that this song is worth the download the tagline from the band's myspace is "Like Nickelback but less ballsy"

Axwell & Dirty South

Ok so initially you're going to think this track is very clubby or housey but when this shit climaxes on the dance floor it hits hard. Lower volumes and shitty speakers are going to make it sound unspecial. Dance.

Sweet Disposition by Temper Trap (Axwell & Dirty South Remix) (Mediafire)

I'm also including the original which is pretty good especially in the movie 500 Days of Summer where it plays twice.

White Lies

Don't be discouraged by this band's horrible name, or the emo track title "Death". I actually wish this song was by the Killers, because then the Killers would still have what they used to. I mean, this song is REALLY polished. The keyboard and drums that roll in around 1:38 are really great. Every listen is better and better.

Unfortunately for everyone White Lies disabled the "embed" function on their music video, which is pretty good.

These Days

Ok, so to the people who already have this song obviously Wes Anderson gets the props for the find because, as you know, it plays in that awesome scene from the Royal Tenenbaums. To all the people that don't have this in their music library yet, get it now. Nico was a glamourous German singer/actress/model from the 60s and 70s. Need I say more? Definitely one of the slower tracks so don't throw this on if you're jacked up right now.

I wish it was sunny

This song doesn't have the smack you in the face feeling a great new song may have, but there is definitely a time and place for it. If it's sunny and you find yourself laying on a blanket looking for that perfect song while you're surrounded by long hair, marijuana, macrame, and joie de vivre, this is the one. I'm trying to say that I would love to hear this one at an outdoor music festival.

This song never got as famous as it should be. I've had it for a year and it's still one of my favorites. Lame music video though, I wouldn't even watch it if I were you. I'm adding the youtube clip just for the audio, if you want to play it change windows.

My Girls

People kept telling me how awesome this song was but for the first five listens I wasn't terribly impressed. Once I saw this video I got it. If you can full screen this shit, jack the volume, and do any kind of drugs, you should. Now. What turned me off about this song is that nothing really happens for the first 3:00. But the video and the drugs made up for it.

My Girls by Animal Collective (Mediafire)

A lot of remix potential here, but I haven't found a good one yet.

Music for sunsets

I was alone watching the sunset on a beach in South America this January and two songs came on that really nailed the moment. The first, Sans Soleil by Miike Snow, I had never really liked before. Turns out when you're watching the sunset this song is incredible. Do not try to listen to this if you're in an energetic mood, or if you can't play it loud.

This song is great for moments when your life feels like a slow motion scene from a Wes Anderson movie. As is the case with all music, the louder it is, the more you'll feel it. So turn this jam up and fucking enjoy it.

I'm not sure which of these is their best song but both are fucking epic. Great roadtrip track.
